This team has been working for over 26 years on helminthiasis and parasitic disease vectors, with numerous papers published and many projects funded, basically by the European Commission (EC) and the Ministries of Education & Science, and Health.
Special mention should be made of its line of research into human fascioliasis and related parasitoses in many countries across Europe, America, Africa and Asia, linked to the fact that Dr. Más-Coma is the World Health Organisation (WHO) expert tasked with leading the WHO's world-wide initiative (headquartered in Geneva) and the regional initiative sponsored by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) against this trematodiasis. In the case of Chagas Disease, the team is the co-ordinator of the EC-funded global project (Chagas Disease Intervention Activities) which covers the whole of Latin America. In the case of vectors, note should be taken of the team's functions as an international reference centre in DNA sequencing, with stress on Culicinae and Anophelinae mosquitoes (thanks to its participation in the EC's EDEN macroproject), triatomine vectors of Chagas Disease, and Lymnaeidae molluscs as transmitters of fascioliasis.
