EQUATORIAL GUINEA REFERENCE CENTRE FOR THE CONTROL OF ENDEMIC DISEASES

Guinea Ecuatorial

The Equatorial Guinea Reference Centre for the Control of Endemic Diseases (Centro de Referencia para el Control de Endemias de Guinea Ecuatorial - CRCE) is a platform managed by the National Centre for Tropical Medicine, which provides technical assistance to a number of nation-wide programmes for the control of endemic diseases, such as malaria, sleeping sickness, AIDS, tuberculosis, vector entomology and control, as well as technically assisting other domestic programmes and equipping the national reference laboratory vis-à-vis such diseases. The CRCE is made up of 6 Spanish Technical Assistants who comprise the RICET's clinical care group, plus a 69-strong team of permanent and temporary locally-based staff (Ecuatorial Guineans) who man it both in the capital (Malabo) and mainland region (Bata), participating in all projects and studies targeted at improving health in the country through prevention and control of these endemic diseases. The laboratories are linked to a number of clinical wards in hospitals situated in Malabo and Bata.

The RICET works with the CRCE and the Guinean Ministry of Health on the application of instruments for the prevention and control of infections, such as malaria, sleeping sickness and filariasis, as well as the study of the vectors that transmit these diseases.
