The group's scientific goal is focused on the identification and molecular and immunological study of specific antigenic proteins of Leishmania and Trypanosoma which may prove to be good candidates for developing efficient immunotherapies against infection by these parasites and/or limiting the pathological consequences of the diseases that they cause (Leishmaniasis and Chagas respectively). Equally, we are interested in characterising biological molecules with immunomodulatory capacity in the study of their mechanism of action, and identifying immunological markers of Chagas Disease severity and post-treatment disease course.
